PTZ via IP

Postby SpyderMan » Wed Feb 10, 2010 5:18 pm

Hi,

I'm looking at providing approx 5 ptz IP cameras (not decided on make yet) but these will be connected only via ethernet/power. I will not run rs485 wires to the cameras.

1) how do I control the cameras from central using joystick.

2) I am also interested in placing cameras in ptz enclosures, so box camera in a ptz enclosure.
How do I control the enclosure and camera combo from one controller ie the enclosure will do the up down left right but the camera lens will do the zoom. I have no idea how they would (link) together to be controllable via joystick.

Any help anyone

Hi,

To control the IP PTZ domes via a joystick you will need a Joystick that is compatiable with the NVR software that you use , have you chosen a software package yet?

Geovison provide a Joystick that can be used with thier GV-NVR software.

With regards to you second query.

Typically a pan tilt platform would be used and the camera installed in an external housing that is mounted to the platform , with regards to the zoom The rs 485 would need to be connected to both the platform and camera.

Hi Thanks for the reply.

I am commited to Avermedia nxu8016 software for the moment.

If the camera and ptz housing are connected via rs485 Do I set the ID the same for both units.

Also what about the getting the rs485 control via IP, as I said b4 I cant run cables to the units as there will be a fibre connection.
